What Happened at the Ladywood Ward Committee

Sorry I've not posted anything for a while - I've had a touch of 'man flu'. Back in business now...

The Ladywood Ward Committee took place about a week and a half ago. Cllr Albert Bore even stayed for the first 45 minutes! Here's what happened.

The News Team's Swimming Pool Presentation

This was a well constructed combination of reportage and archive footage. It was particularly interesting to see the demolition of the Monument Road baths, over which the old Labour council presided.

Neighbourhood Policing in Central Ladywood and Summerfield

Presentation by Sgt Des Lambert. The main purpose of neighbourhood policing is community engagement, and to this end the police work with the Council, the Housing department and so on.

Sgt Lambert warned us about a recent spate of bag snatching on roads such as Gilby Road - thieves target this area in the hope that people have just visited cash machines on Broad St.

He also told us about a recent survey that the police have distributed. If you received it, please fill it in - you can return it for free.

The whole of Ladywood Ward is now an alchohol exclusion zone! This means that if you see anyone drinking in public anywhere in the Ward (including all of the City Centre), they are committing an offence.

Environmental Wardens in Ladywood Ward

Environmental Wardens patrol the Ward, looking for litter, graffiti and other similar problems. They also perform an education function and have enforcement powers.

Cllr Hartley piped up and announced that Ladywood has been judged the cleanest Ward in Birmingham! Er, really? Tell that to the people that contact me about rats around Ladywood Middleway!

You can contact the Wardens on 0845 113 500.

I raised one of my pet issues, that of noise. I consider noise to be an environmental crime, but it doesn't appear to be a priority for the Environmental Wardens, which I found a bit disappointing.

Grant Approvals

Various grants were approved, including the one for the City Centre Neighbourhood Forum (of which I am a Committee Member).

Coach Parking in the City Centre

This is a problem whenever the ICC has a major event on. This has been significantly improved since the police started threatening coach drivers with penalty points. Well done!

Er, T-Bone, you mentioned Cllr Hartley piped up and announced that Ladywood has been judged the cleanest Ward in Birmingham! Er, really? Tell that to the people that contact me about rats around Ladywood Middleway!

What you don't seem to understand that Ladywood IS the cleanest place in the 39 wards if you check your facts you will would have done YOUR HOME WORK & retract your comments as one of the Environment wardens of Ladywood I can confirm this.

I am sure the people of Ladywood would have told you that you are NOT WANTED IN CENTRAL LADYWOOD. So do us a favour change your career & start to sing your brand new release Another One Bites The Dust as the Lib Dem & Conservatives are in bed together another bites the dust.

If you have never been a councillor before you will now know that you are standing against the best three councillors in Ladywood as they are simply the best .

Oh what about the untold story that your that Len Clark was a Labour Councillor he then went to the conservative party.

Can you further confirm that your father's company business went boom & bust care to comment on it so DARE TO STUGGLE & DARE TO WIN!

You gave the warden's numbers out. Anons contribution will probably put people off calling.

I don't usually respond to anonymous rants - just a few points:

1. My father runs a thriving business - it is Birmingham's oldest family-run garage and has been in existence since 1929. It is totally and utterly untrue that it has ever gone 'bust', or anything remotely of that nature. In future, please leave my family out of this.

2. I very much doubt that you're one of Ladywood's Environmental Wardens.

3. It is for the electorate to decide whether I'm wanted, not you.

If he/she is an environmental warden, he/she has just invited disciplinary action because it is certainly not the place of an environmental warden to engage in party politics like this. I share Pete's suspicion that this brave anonymous poster is not a warden. He/she is, however, clearly deluded.

Keep up the good work Pete! Your efforts to represent the people of Ladywood are going to ensure this election is the closest ever in LAdywood and you may well pull off the coup of beating Bore.

Firstly, the comments from Gareth thatIf he/she is an environmental warden, he/she has just invited disciplinary action because it is certainly not the place of an environmental warden to engage in party politics like this. May I remind you that any indivdual employee of the City Council can take part in any debate so check your facts right before you your motor mouth into action. I suspect that you have never worked in your life that you are a Johny Come Lately to the Tories.

Secondley Gareth said I share Pete's suspicion that this brave anonymous poster is not a warden. He/she is, however, clearly deluded.

I can assure you that I am a member of the Edgbaston Ward Conservative Party.

I am sure more than ever that you do not share the views of you own party views. You will know from the history that all Councillors or MPs has to be present any meetings and you are a disgrace to the Tories for this reason I will take this matter up with the 1929 committee to have you deselected as candidate for the next election and recommend that they bar you from becoming an MP for Ladywood.

Anonymous, you are beyond parody.

Your spelling is lamentable (that means 'bad' by the way, as I suspect your vocabulary doesn't stretch to 4 syllable words).

If you're an Edgbaston tory, I'm Pope Pius XII.

It's the 1922 Committee you muppet and, in any event, has no jurisdiction over council candidates.

And, since you ask, I was a councillor for 8 years and am, therefore, neither a 'jonny-come-lately' nor ignorant of what officers can and can't say in public meetings.
