Even hard-working councillors go on holiday sometimes, and next week is my turn. Cllr Jane James will be picking up any queries in my absence. See you in a week or so!

Last night, Edward Timpson won the Crewe and Nantwich by-election for the Conservatives. We turned a 7,000-vote Labour majority into a 8,000-vote Conservative majority.
On top of the great local and London mayoral elections a few weeks ago, this is a significant turning point in Conservative fortunes. People up and down the country are ready to trust the Conservatives to form the next government.
Excellent result and well done to all involved.

On Saturday, I was pleased to meet up with Simon Jay from the Welsh House Farm Community Project. The Quinborne Community Association were celebrating their 70th Anniversary at the Quinborne Centre and the WHFCP had a stand. I'm very much looking forward to working more closely with Simon and this valuable project in my new role as Councillor.

Renovation work has now started on the garages at the 'roundabout end' of Higgins Lane. A local resident had contacted me about the slowly deteriorating state of these garages. You know how it goes - something starts to look shabby, then it gets vandalised, graffiti, and before you know it, it starts to bring the area down.
I contacted the Council about it and I didn't rest until we saw some proper delivery on the ground. This is a great example of how a single resident's enquiry can produce results.

I've received reports of some damage to a bridge leading into Woodgate Valley Country Park, so I went over there yesterday. I met up with the local Rangers, who told me that a bridge from Barn Piece has been damaged, but replacement materials are on their way. I'll keep on top of it - watch this space!
